Common cosmetic packaging:
1. Plastic bottle
Plastic bottles are made of various materials, including ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), PP (polypropylene), PE (polyethylene), PET (polyethylene terephthalate), AS (styrene acrylonitrile copolymer) and acrylic. Among them, PP, PE and PET are environment-friendly materials, which can directly contact with the contents. PP and PE are translucent, white and can be made into a variety of hardness; PET is transparent, light and soft.
2. Glass bottle
Glass bottles are mainly used in cream, cream, lotion, essence, essential oil and other small products in skin care products. From the point of view of the type of bottle mouth, glass bottles can be divided into wide mouth bottles and narrow mouth bottles. Wide mouth bottles are mostly used for face cream, smeared facial mask and other solid paste substances, while narrow mouth bottles are generally used for water and lotion. Glass bottles are generally used with bottle caps and pump heads, or with droppers to keep them clean. The glass bottle body can be sanded, sprayed or screen printed.
The advantage of glass bottle lies in its low cost, while the disadvantage is that it is heavy and easy to break. Generally, perfume products prefer to use glass bottles to better prevent liquid volatilization and maintain the smell of perfume.
3. Hose
The hose can be divided into single layer, double layer and five layers according to the number of layers. It can be divided into plastic pipe and metal pipe according to the material. The most common one is plastic hose, which is the packaging used for ordinary facial cleanser. PE plastic is generally used. The hose package has good airtightness, which can isolate the infiltration of outside air and prevent the leakage of contents. The hose with different layers has different impermeability. The hose body can be processed by a variety of processes, such as silk screen, and is generally matched with a rotary cap or a flip cap.
Special packaging for special ingredients:
1. Dark glass bottle
After some photosensitive components in cosmetics are oxidized by ultraviolet radiation, they may not only lose their activity and efficacy, but may even cause sensitization and toxicity. For example, ascorbic acid and ferulic acid are prone to photolysis and oxidation, while retinoids and their derivatives and furacoumarins are photosensitive and phototoxic.
In order to prevent such components from being photolyzed and oxidized by ultraviolet light, the packaging must be protected from light. Generally, dark opaque glass bottles are used as packaging materials, especially dark brown glass bottles. In order to maintain convenience and hygiene, such opaque glass bottles are often used with droppers.
Some brands that focus on functional ingredients especially like this kind of design. After all, the brand is characterized by sufficient quantity and powerful effect, and the appropriate packaging design is the basis for the raw materials to play a role.
Although dark glass bottles are mainly used to avoid light, it is not ruled out that dark glass bottles are used purely for traditional or appearance reasons. Some products do not contain photosensitive ingredients in the ingredient list, but they still use dark glass bottles that are opaque. This may be due to the traditional use of dark dropper glass bottles in medicine.
2. Vacuum pump
Although the dark glass bottle has good light shielding performance, it can only completely isolate the air before use, and it is not applicable to components with higher requirements for air insulation (such as ubiquinone and ascorbic acid, which are used for anti-oxidation), and some oil components that are easy to be oxidized (such as shea butter).
If the product composition has higher requirements for airtightness, vacuum pump can be used. The vacuum pump is generally made of AS material, and the biggest advantage of this kind of packaging is that it can well isolate the material from the outside air. The vacuum pump package has a piston at the bottom of the bottle. When the pump head is pressed, the piston at the bottom of the bottle moves upward, the material flows out, and the bottle space shrinks without air entering.
3. Metal hose
Dark glass has an ordinary air insulation performance. The vacuum pump is made of plastic, which is difficult to achieve good light shielding performance. If the product components have very high requirements on both light shielding and air insulation (such as vitamin A alcohols), we need to find better packaging materials.
The metal hose can meet the requirements of air insulation and light shielding at the same time. High concentration of retinol alcohol products are generally stored in aluminum tubes. Compared with plastic, aluminum tubes are more airtight, and can protect the activity of the contents from light and moisture.
4. Ampoules
Ampoules are one of the popular packaging materials in the cosmetics industry in recent years, and their airtightness and safety are indeed commendable. The creativity of ampoules in the cosmetics industry comes from the ampoules in the medical industry. Ampoules can seal the active ingredients and are disposable, which can ensure the health and safety of the product and the ability to isolate air and pollutants.
